A. Noun

Noun (nomina) adalah kata yang digunakan untuk menerangkan (sebagai kata ganti) orang, tempat, sesuatu, kualitas, idiologi perbuatan, peristiwa, dan bisa berfungsi sebagai subyek kalimat atau obyek dari kata kerja, obyek preposition, atau sebagai pelengkap keterangan tempat,. Dalam kalimat "pollution is becoming a big problem in this country" , kata-kata seperti pollution, problem, dan country merupakan noun.

Berikut ini adalah beberapa contoh kata yang tergolong kata benda "

1. Person (Orang)

       Kata ganti orang seperti : boy, man, women, community, baby, people, police, solidier, nurse, the twin, etc adalah noun.

Contoh :

- Nadine is the medical doctor

- A police captured a smuggler yesterdey 

- Students are studying

- Jacob and Marry have two children

- Mother and father want the nurse to stay home

2. Place (Tempat)

         Kata tempat menerangkan semua tempat yang termasuk dalam nama umum, seperti : city, island, earth, mount, river, office, house, sea, planet, etc, dan nama khusus seperti : Bali, Japan, SUmatra, Australia, New York, England, Everest, Red Sea, Atlantic, Venus, Hilton Hotel, etc.

 Contoh :

- Bali  is one of the famous tourist destinations in Indonesia

- My office is at Soehat Building on Jalan Pahlawan Madiun

- Jakarta is the largest city of Indonesia

- There is a swimming pool next to the beach

- America is the richest country in the world

 

3. Thing (Sesuatu)

        Sesuatu menerangkan semua bentuk zat yang terwujud padar dan cair seperti : animal, sugar, oil, water, sand, tree, car, food, etc. Sebagai jenis gas seperti : air, smoke, steam, etc. Dan yang tidak berwujud tetapi secara konsep dapat dimengerti dan mempunyai nilai tertentu seperti : ideology, religion, dream, behavior, concept, feeling, expectation, sound, truth, appearance, news, profession, etc.

Contoh :

- Sugar is one the sources carbohydrate

- There are many kinds of wild animals in Indonesia among others tigers, elephants, comodos, orangutans, etc

- Most of Asian countries use rice as a staple food

- We need car to lift this furniture to our new house

- The air in this room is not fresh because it has been contaminated by smoke

Contoh-contoh dari kata benda yang tidak berwujud tetapi secara konsep dipahami atau dapat dirasakan akibatnya adalah sebagai berikut :

- The ideology of our movement is based on the universal human right

- His dream to be a champion has become an obsession

- Pretending as an honest person is a bad behavior

- The concept seems good but the application still as a question mark

- Truth was the basic of the verdict made by the jury
